Ratings and Reviews
Decent, needs improvement
I have a BT768hd and using an iPhone 6. The Kenwood app will work as long as you connect the app first before the iPhone connects with Pandora; otherwise, the app will not connect until i completely shut down pandora app on iPhone and then start the Kenwood app. Then, i would have to choose BT Audio in Kenwood app to be able to play/control Pandora through iPhone.
A second problem is that EQ calibration is not directly changed in head unit until you click save, then one has to enter the calibration again in order to keep changing the rest of the 13 bands. This has to be more user friendly.
I really hope Kenwood is working on this connectivity interface to make the experience smoother and respond to changes as the settings are being changed.
On the good side, the app gives access to all the settings in the unit such as audio settings, display color, and the rest of the functions.
Almost works for me!
I managed to pair my iPhone 6s+ without too much problem, and the app works to control a variety of sources, except the one I wanted it to! Turns out, the one thing you can't do is control the music coming through USB on a thumb drive! I have a 256GB thumb drive loaded with flac files and on this radio they sound great. But, the interface is so clumsy to brows through folders and tracks it's not really plausible to browse your music collection while driving, you have to slowly go through little by little. The ability to scroll through thumb drive folders on my iPhone screen would make this app really awesome, but for me it's basically useless since I'm not interested in streaming content while I'm on the road.
Plus, as others have mentioned, the display is tough to see during the day, especially if your dashboard tilts back some, and you wear polarized sunglasses. I will admit, for the amazing price I paid for this radio, it plays everything I want it to, controls my amps and speakers in terms of pre outs and crossover settings, etc., and it does sound really nice, so it's a keeper. Even though it does so much, I have to deduct a little for the display, but a big deduct for the ill conceived app.
It's no supercomputer, but it works great.
So I see that many other reviews on this are kinda bad as the app has two stars, don't trust them, I own a brand new kenwood KDC-BT378U deck, and brand new speakers to go with it, as for the app itself it wasn't too difficult to get it to correlate with the headset itself, I had to try twice I admit, but it's probably because I wasn't sure how the app worked. After I got it connected through the app (only took about 30-40 seconds to figure out) it had the correct settings I had already previously set on my trucks stereo system. And I played with the app and through the app made the experience for rear passengers much better as I was able to sit in the backseat with this app and happily change the sounds of my system to favor the rear of the vehicle without sounding uncomfortable or too much treble or base. While the front of the vehicle is also perfectly balanced and still sounds just as fantastic. If you have a kenwood deck I actually highly advise you give the app a try and I bet you'll be just as satisfied as I.
